“Freedom is not just a place—it is the right to exist without fear.”
This film is dedicated to Swiss humanitarianism and its human values, a country that offers hope and opportunities to those who have lost everything, proving that dignity and solidarity are the greatest wealth of a society.
STORYLINE
Haunted by a past filled with persecution and political betrayal, Sahil, a professor and politician from Baghdad, is forced into exile, constantly on the run to save his life. His journey through war zones, secret hideouts, and perilous escapes leads him to Geneva, Switzerland—a land of peace, but not yet of safety. As he anxiously awaits a decision on his asylum request, every second feels like an eternity, with the fear of deportation hanging over him like a death sentence.
Dardani, a dedicated social assistant, is his only guide through the labyrinth of bureaucracy and the reality of his new life. Switzerland is known for its wealth and precision, but few speak of its true riches—its humanitarian values and the refuge it has offered to the persecuted for centuries. Through Dardani’s narration, we explore the deeper meaning of social assistance and the profound impact it has on those who have lost everything.
As the story unfolds, Sahil is haunted by memories of his past—brutal torture, desperate escapes through mountains, a perilous boat journey where many refugees lost their lives, and the unbearable loneliness of exile. Every interaction in Geneva reminds him of the stark contrast between the life he once had and the one he is struggling to rebuild. But the scars of survival are not easily healed.
As time passes, Sahil faces the most crucial moment of his life—one that will determine whether he can finally find the peace he has been searching for, or if he must continue living in fear.
But can a man truly be reborn after losing everything?
